A couple of quotes from one of our breeding customers...
Deb,
I am going to send you some more pictures later today of Rembrandt's first venture out. He is full of "beans" and is driving mommy crazy because he is in constant motion. Lisa (my vet) said he is the strongest foal she has ever seen! He was up and nursing within 40 minutes and has not stopped going. He was trotting and bucking in the stall within 2 hours of birth!
He has the movement of Ice Man with lots of impulsion. In fact, he bounces when he trots and was completing flying lead changes his first day of life! His canter is stunning and very collected considering his long legs-he can almost do a canter pirouette. In addition, Tilly almost has to gallop (remember she is an ex-race horse) to keep up with him when he runs around the field.
He also has the most wonderful temperament (Ice's influence???) and will let anyone touch him and give him lots of kisses. I will send you the picture of him surrounded by kids as young as 3 years old! He let my two Australian Shepherds sniff all over him and we all took a little nap together. He pretty much accepts everything with a calm demeanor, including the needle prick when they drew blood to check the level of antibodies in his system. He was such a trooper! I can touch him all over, pick up his feet, put on/take off his blanket and hold/hug him without a struggle. In addition, he has never tried to kick anyone or rear up in defiance. I have never worked with such an amazing foal!
I was also amazed he turned out black! Tilly's line, as far as I can trace back (about 60 years), is almost 100% bay and I figured he would be a dark bay. Imagine my surprise and delight to see a black foal!
Rembrandt is exactly what I was wishing for in a foal and I am so thankful that Ice Man is the sire. I wish you the best with him and I have a feeling he will continue to produce amazing foals. Thank you again for making my Friesian dream come true!

Deb and Dave,
Hope all is well for both of you and Ice had another successful breeding season! Just wanted to give you an update on Rembrandt...he is doing great and still growing. He now measures out at a little under 14.2 hands! He is by far the biggest 10-month old I have ever seen, and my vet concurred. He is officially a gelding now...I hoped to wait a full year, but decided to geld him after he jumped a 4+ foot gate to get to the ladies! Good news is he wasn't hurt and I now know he can jump the moon. Hopefully, this is an indication of his jumping ability since I hope to event with him in the future.I have included a recent pic of Rembrandt. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing and it is hard to see how long his mane has grown. He definitely inherited Ice's mane and tail---they are thick and curly. I also included a pic of Rembrandt with his best friend Ben. Ben is a 19 hand Percheron and the two are inseparable!I know I am biased, but I have to say Rembrandt is by far the best horse I have ever worked with. He is loving, curious, brave, easy going, beautiful, willing, trusting and fun. I look forward to our adventures together and wish I could have 10 more of him!!!! I would definitely recommend cross-breeding to Ice for those people looking for a truly remarkable Sport Horse. He has the movement and presence for Dressage, the athleticism for jumping and the temperament to take on anything!Best wishes!
Heather

IT'S A GIRL!!!
We have a fabulous little dark bay girl! She is SO beautiful and strong and can she move?!!
She was born yesterday at around 1:30 in the afternoon, how lucky am I? Everything went well and the vet checked her today and said she looks great! We are busting with pride! Galena (Dam) is a Polish Arabian, her Grandfather is Gondolier, top producing Polish stallion. She is 15 hands (real hands not Arab hands), and she is 14 this year. I have had her since she was three, she is one of the best horses I have ever owned. Kids can ride her and she could compete in dressage with a good rider, the best disposition and beautiful to boot! Isabelle is an incredible mover and is so like her daddy, she poses! She will stop prancing and stand square and raise that elegant head and perk her ears, plus she is an angel, could not ask for better!! Molly is getting closer, maiden and hard to predict, can't wait to see the next one! We have three bay fillies right now and are wondering if we will have four, could we be so lucky!? Isabelle has filled out even in one day so will send more photos tomorrow! Isabelle runs and runs with great action! Sweet as can be too! We could not be happier with her! We love her are and are so pleased! Thank you so much! We think she is wonderful! Annie (in California)

Hello Deb and Dave, Well it has just been a day. As you see the little girl is here. She was quite a surprise this morning. We were there until 11:00 last night and when we got up at 4:30 she beat us to the barn. She had just gotten to the world not shortly before that. Still wet and not ready to get up... She is very full of life. Running and playing and climbing stuff... Marquis is a gorgeous baby! Well let me tell you a little bit about her. I have never been around a Friesian type horse. Really only Quarter Horses and I can tell you first hand about the difference in how the babies are. She is so eager to learn . She is already doing well on a halter. (Day 2) She hasn't balked hardly at all no rearing and flopping around like a fish out of water. Just speak kindly and show her what you are asking and she does it like a foal we have been working w/ for at least a week or two and even longer for some!!!! She doesn't mind the halter being put on at all. No fighting. We are not used to this. She loves to be touched. She is great w/ her feet. She is already letting us pick up her feet, rub plastic bags on her, like I said earlier. Just ask and she is willing. The progress w/ her in just a little over 1 day, usually takes us weeks and weeks. With quite a lot more fight and repetitiveness. We have been working on walking beside mom and her legs just prances up and down. She is such a happy little girl. Her color is a charcoal black.. We feel she will shed out to be black.. her hair feels like mink not at all like our Quarter Horses babies feel. She has lots of curls. She even has hair on her lower legs unlike our other horses. So many thanks to you and Mr. Ice Man of course. For making such a great horse that almost any one can afford. Wilma, Donita, and Dr Colborn (near Houston) |
